Published 06 December 2023

The University of Auckland has been ranked first in Oceania and fifth in the world for sustainability in the 2024 QS World University Sustainability Rankings.

University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dawn Freshwater said, “This is a singular achievement by the staff and students at the University. It reflects the serious commitment and the collective mahi we have to support a fair, ethical and sustainable society.”

The QS sustainability ranking evaluates universities based on data from the QS World University Rankings, including information from surveys and research output related to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The ranking uses more than 75 data points, grouped into nine lenses, to rank institutions in three main categories: environmental impact, social impact, and governance.
